An Interview with Perri Liebergall

St. Luke’s sophomore, Perri Liebergall, is currently a dancer and a member of the competition team at New Canaan Dance Academy. The Sentinel decided to sit down with Perri and ask her a few questions regarding her pursuit as a dancer.

When did you start dancing?

I started dancing when I was 3, but I started competitively dancing when I was in 5th grade.

What style of dance do you do? What is your favorite?

I do Contemporary, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical. My favorite is probably Hip-hop and Ballet.

What does your dance schedule look like?

I have dance 6 days a week and it’s about 10-15 hours a week. I usually don’t have dance on Sundays unless there’s a competition.

What’s competing like?

As a team, we have about 5 competitions a year. At each competition, I compete my solo and about 6 group dances.

What are some of your achievements?

As a team we have received many awards over the years. For my solo, i’ve won 1st overall in my category, 1st overall in my age group, and 1st place regional. Also, I auditioned to perform at the Harford show for Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour and I’m waiting to hear back in June.

Aside from competitions, where else have you performed?

As a team we have performed for the Knicks (NBA) and New York Liberty (WNBA) at Madison Square Garden. We’ve also performed in Time Square and at a lot of charity events.

Why do you love to dance?

I love to dance because my team is like my second family and I love the creative aspect of it.

Is dance something you want to pursue in your future?

It’s definitely something I want to do on the side, but not necessarily as my career.

Is your experience with dance anything like Dance Moms?

Yes. Minus the drama.
