Von Fabrice Trumps Blakely

While members of Von Fabrice House were seen chortling in joy over their recent field day victory, members of the last-place Blakely House bowed their heads in the hallway, ashamed of their poor performance on that fateful Tuesday.

Von Fabrice House absolutely dominated the competition on Field Day, and it was no surprise to anyone. Their team was stacked: Josh and Jeff Mitchell, Dolan Gregorich, Clay D’Alessandro, Robert Powis and Mac Zech to name a few athletes.

In addition to a stacked roster, Von Fabrice seemed to have a much more competitive disposition than any of the other houses. To quote Milo Judge after the victory: “On that day, we lived by the philosophy of Ricky Bobby: If we didn’t get first, we were last.”

This competitive edge really showed during Milo’s group’s 50-yard dash, the one event in which his team didn’t place first. After finishing second Milo yelled at his team, “This is what losing feels like. Take a deep breath and let it sink in. We’ve got to step it up.”

Milo’s team did not lose another event the rest of the day.

Aside from the athletic prowess of the Von Fabrice House, there is another story here: Blakely House had the worst field day performance in the Founders’ Cup history.

Drew Lord, a Blakely House member, said, “My team trained hard but when it came down to the wire, our athletic skills just weren’t up to par. We are disappointed about our performance, and apologize to our fans. We won’t be embarrassed again.”

However, in case you didn’t know, the Founder’s Cup is not over. Von Fabrice may have won the battle, but the war is still raging. Von Fabrice’s team was athletically gifted, but the year’s upcoming artistic and academic Founder’s Cup events could pose a challenge. There is a real lack of confidence in Von Fabrice’s ability to compete in these events. “How could Von Fabrice compete in an academic event?” asked Christian Duncan ’14 rhetorically (perhaps unaware that he is in Von Fabrice House). “I mean, they’re just a bunch of knuckleheads.”

The competition is heating up in this Founders’ Cup, and you can’t get left behind. It won’t be long until Blakely students won’t eat with anyone in the Kidd house, and Von Fabrice seniors shake down Oliphant freshmen for their lunch money.

Get pumped for the Founders’ Cup, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
