Mr. 1k Jay

Jalen Latta, Senior captain of the Boys Varsity basketball team just hit the ultimate landmark of high school basketball, reaching 1000 points during his varsity career. Latta has played on the varsity team since 8th grade and has always played a vital role on the team. Entering his final season, the 2015-2016 season, with 969 points over four years, he had only 31 points remaining before entering the 1000 point club.

In the home opener, Latta scored 16 points in the team’s demolishing win over Greens Farms Academy. On Thursday, December 16th, Jay scored 26 points in an FAA win over King, scoring his 1000th point near the end of the first half.

Jay received a pass from fellow senior Shannon Smith and laid the ball in the net with grace. The traveling St. Luke’s fan base went berserk and Coach Drew Gladstone took a full time out to let Jay cherish the moment. Jay’s family ran out on the court and embraced him, taking pictures with him while everyone in the building stood clapping.

“It feels amazing and it’s a great honor. It’s been my goal since eighth grade and it feels great. God was helping me throughout my career by keeping me healthy and making this possible. It took a lot of hard work and many hours in the gym. It was an emotional moment for me, and I want to thank all my trainers, coaches, teammates, family, and god for guiding me through my career.”

Congratulations Mr.1k Jay on a fantastic career, and we wish you the best in college.
