Coffee House

With St. Luke’s first Coffee House of the year approaching this Friday, I decided to have a chat with our new emcees, Nick Jodka ‘16 and Alex Levy ‘16. The two were recruited by one of last year’s emcees, Augie Barringer, but they were not sought after as a duo. “Nick was chosen first, then a week later, Augie came to me and asked if I would like to be the second emcee”, Alex explained. I asked Nick and Alex what the secret was to smoothly running the six to eight Coffee Houses that will take place this year, and Nick told me “the most important thing is that the emcees have chemistry” to which  Alex added, “we did have chemistry together for two years!”

Looking to the future, Jodka and Levy said that they would like to “break trends, not tradition”, and intend to do so by encouraging non-singing acts. Bilal Memon, for example, will be doing standup at Friday’s Coffee House. Unexpected duo Will Bralower, ‘16, and Schuyler Andersen, ‘16, will also be performing. Emcee Alex explained, “what’s exciting about this Coffee House is that we have a lot of new people that are trying it out instead of having regulars perform.” We can also expect Nick Jodka to perform at the first Coffee House of the year. Our emcees also said that they “would love to see Ms. Doran perform, preferably singing.” Coffee House will be taking place on Friday, during lunch in the commons, just outside Dr. Bramlett’s office and all are welcome to watch!
