Accafellas Avoid Disaster at Sacred Heart

Acafellas @ Convent

There were five minutes to showtime, and we got the news that the baseball game was still going on. Uh oh.

The St. Luke’s Accafellas, the Junior/Senior Acapella male singing group, was invited on Tuesday to preform as a special guest at the Convent of the Sacred Heart Spring Concert. Thanks to choir director Dale Griffa’s former position as president of the Connecticut Music Educators Association, the Accafellas have become somewhat known and the St. Luke’s music department is continuing to gain appreciation.

With only a few minutes before the show was to start, we got the word that the Boys Varsity Baseball game against King was going into extra innings. This might have meant disaster: multiple of the soloist played baseball and it was too late to make substitutions.

Luckily, around three minutes before we were scheduled to go on, baseball had arrived. Unluckily, they would not have time to change.

In a night that became filled with memories and photo-ops, the Accafellas sang four of their songs (Danny Boy, Wagon Wheel, Run Around, Little Lion Man). They ended up bringing the house down, with several ensuing potential prom asks by Sacred Heart students, and much drama on the Sacred Heart Facebook group.

The Accafellas hope to have several more successful performances before the end of the year.
