Ways to Spend This Long Weekend

Thinking of things to do this weekend? The Sentinel staff got together to brainstorm fun ways to make the most of these four free days:

Monika: Go see American Sniper

This Friday, January 15th is the highly-anticipated release of American Sniper starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. Already nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, it is sure to be a captivating experience. It’s directed by Clint Eastwood and follows the true story of the famed Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle and the struggles he faces between his life back home and on the battlefield. It will definitely be worth the overpriced ticket and popcorn.

Josie: Brunswick Game

GO TO THE GAME! SUPPORT!!! Wear camo/hunting gear.

Henry: Go to the city

Despite the fact that it is only an hour away, not many of us take advantage of New York City. Go see a Broadway show, explore Chinatown, visit a museum – anything to get you out of the house con sus amigos. Rockefeller Center is still open for ice skating and the Natural History Museum just opened a new exhibit called “Countdown to Zero” showcasing the effects of global pandemics throughout human history. Metro North tickets are $22 round trip, a fair price to pay for a culture-rich day.

Jamie: NFL Playoffs

This weekend, the NFL Conference Champions will be decided. On Sunday at 3:00, the Green Bay Packers head to Seattle to face the Seahawks in a very interesting matchup. The Packers have the highest ranked offense while the Seahawks have the highest ranked defense. Unfortunately for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers is still suffering from a lingering calf injury so his effectiveness against the aggressive Seahawks defense is a big question. On Sunday at 6:40, the Indianapolis Colts head to Foxborough to face the New England Patriots. The Colts are a pretty big underdog; however, Andrew Luck has proven that he can carry the Colts through tough odds before. Both of these games will be great matchups, and they could both end up coming down to the final minutes or even final seconds.

Porter: Hackathon

This weekend, over 40 SLS students and teachers will take part in the first ever Hackathon held on our own school grounds.  Organized by Mr. Foley and Mr. Mitchell, teams of students will be charged with creating a programming project in order to solve a common problem in our lives.  The event will be riddled with prizes, food, and special guests, so make sure to stop by as the event will be run from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning!

Mary: Stare at a Wall

Stare at a wall! Sometimes our eyes get tired, and there is no better way to rest yourself and your eyes then looking vacantly at a white wall. Look inside yourself, you may not like what you see, but to understand oneself is the first step to putting meaning into your life.

Kelly: Sleep

Sleep: We are all so sleep deprived and would benefit from a few more hours of shut eye. This weekend try to relax a little bit and enjoy some sleep. Maybe you can even take a nap! Get some sleep, you deserve it!

Enjoy your well-deserved break, and we hope that with our suggestions, you fulfill your own wildest dreams and find the meanings of your wonderful lives!
