Charity by Moonlight

In the following weeks, St. Luke’s Seniors will once again participate in the Midnight Run, a now favorite tradition of each graduating class. For two nights a year, Seniors will take a variety of items–including food, clothing, and toiletries–and deliver them to homeless men and women across New York City.  This year, the runs are scheduled for February 20th and 27th. As is par for the course, Seniors have been preparing for this event for two months. Different groups of students organize all of the essentials for making this trip. A Publicity group makes signs, hands out flyers, and shares the event in the media, while other groups are dedicated to the collection, organization, and shipping of all of the items acquired over this several week long period.

In its eighth year at SLS, the Midnight Run has become a hallmark of the community service on the Hilltop. It is almost entirely student run, but overseen with the guiding help of Ms. DeMarco and volunteer parents. As of now, everything is being collected and organized for the big nights, and the Seniors get to look forward to completing one of the graduating rituals of St. Luke’s.
